Iran’s Flag is Taken Down by a Group of Men in Its Embassy in London

As the footages show, a group of men dressed in black climbed the façade of the Iranian embassy in London and have taken down Iran’s flag. The footage was posted online. A man climbed the balcony of the embassy building and took down the Iranian flag.

According to the Fars News Agency, the men assailed the Iranian embassy at 4:30 p.m. local time. With their weapons in their hands they threat people on the scene. They climbed the embassy building and took down the Iranian flag.

The news was spread so fast since the Metropolitan Police interfered to calm down the situation. The men who wore black cloths got to the roof and the police tried to negotiate in order to make them to come down. The journalist Nahayat Tizhoosh tweeted, citing fellow journalist Laura McQuillan.

Finally the police arrested four of them, as Iran’s Ambassador to the UK, Hamid Baeidinejad said. According to him more perpetrators could still be on the grounds of the embassy and more protection is needed.

However, as BBC Persian contributor Hossein Aghaie tweeted, the men in black were in fact supporters of Shirazi. This has been guessed since Shirazi’s son Hossein has been recently arrested for criticizing and condomning Iran’s government.

“A few followers of [late Shia Muslim cleric Grand Ayatollah Muhammad al-] Shirazi have attacked the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Embassy in London and broke the flag mast,” said Hamid Baeidinejad. The raiders were “chanting slogans against Iranian officials,” he added.
