Donald Trump has been proud about his abilities, such as cutting business deals or winning the golf course. Recently, he has claimed that he is a skilled writer and had authored many books.
After having written many best-selling books, and somewhat priding myself on my ability to write, it should be noted that the Fake News constantly likes to pore over my tweets looking for a mistake. I capitalize certain words only for emphasis, not b/c they should be capitalized!
However, all of his books have been the work of a ghost writer, identified or not. After his announcement about his writing skill, Tim O’Brien, author of Trump Nation: The Art of Being the Donald, said that the president didn’t write any of his books. It was all ghostwriters work.
There are other writers such as Tony Schwartz, who question Trump’s writing skills. He ghostwrote Trump’s first book, 1987’s Trump: The Art of the Deal. According to The New Yorker, Schwartz “put lipstick on a pig”, and created Trump’s glowing portrait.
I feel a deep sense of remorse that I contributed to presenting Trump in a way that brought him wider attention and made him more appealing than he is.
After the White House’s silence in responding to questions about the extent of Trump’s involvement in writing books, Schwartz added that Trump didn’t write a word of any of his books, because he doesn’t read books.
